HOPE MILLS, North Carolina — More than a dozen people were taken to the hospital late Thursday night when two SUVs crashed head-on into each other in Cumberland County.

Authorities said 15 people were taken Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after the vehicles collided at the intersection of Rockfish and Camden roads in Hope Mills. The people included small children, teenagers, and adults, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Officials said the 17-year-old driver of the blue GMC ran a red light and crashed into a white GMC, which was carrying eight passengers. There were seven people in the blue SUV.

All 15 people were injured, but most people had minor bumps and bruises, troopers said.

The youngest person involved was 2 years old.

The driver of the blue SUV, who was not identified, was charged with driving without a license and a red-light violation.
